English Teacher Faces 5yrs Jail for Faking Degree

An English teacher in Poland is facing up to 5 years in jail after authorities discovered her teaching with a fake degree.

The unnamed woman taught English at various kindergarten schools for 5 years before being caught.

The degree was bought off an open air market in Lodz and the woman used it to obtain work in various schools in the Kutno area. Using a fake degree is punishable by up to 5 years in jail in Poland.

The woman pleaded poverty saying she had started her English degree course but had to drop out due to financial problems. In Poland free higher education is available but usually only to the best graduates who generally attend expensive fee-paying private education.

NB in 1995 the newly elected President of Poland, Aleksander Kwaśniewski, was shown to have falsified documents regarding his own education and (lack of) qualifications.1 Despite this he was sworn in as President.

Editorial

It’s rife in education. False qualifications, fake documents, resumes filled with falsehoods.

And in the end they get found out.

Sooner or later someone, somewhere, will call you on your qualifications and it will end in tears. We get job applications coming through our office almost daily and every so often there will be something which makes us wonder and which makes us suspicious. And we always call the teacher on this, often to see them either try to squirm their way out of it or to run off and hide.

We have no sympathy for teachers who lie to get the job and falsify their qualifications. In our book they deserve all they get because they are not only deceiving their students and colleagues, but disrespecting all the teachers out there who actually put in the work and the time and the effort in order to qualify and become genuine teachers.

So yes, we are pleased this teacher is no longer working and deceiving her students and her school.
