Split Shifts

Split shifts happen fairly often in schools teaching English. Essentially it means when you have to work for a few hours in the morning, then take a long break, and then start work again in the evening.

Depending on where you live in relation to the school this can cause difficulties when it comes to transport. Check your teaching contract to see if there is any mention of when you will be required to work at the school (and ask them if there's no mention of this). Then find out where you will be living and what provision there is for either avoiding split shifts or organizing transport or closer accommodation if necessary.
