A church school in Hong Kong has come under fire after posting an advert asking specifically for a “Caucasian” English teacher in their school.
The blatantly racist ad was pulled after a barrage of criticism was directed towards the church school who beat a hasty retreat with an “apology” which seemed half-hearted at best.
They said the ad has been removed and then clarified they were looking for a native teacher of English. They went on to say,
“Our church and our organizations have absolutely no intention to discriminate against any ethnic groups in our staff recruitment. Our faith will not, and does not, allow or tolerate discrimination of any forms.”
Except that they had just discriminated.
Meanwhile Hong Kong authorities are looking into whether the advert has contravened discrimination laws in Hong Kong.
